A lovely sunny evening seemed to induce a rather lethargic approach to the debate on the WI resolutions for the Annual General Meeting in Brighton in June. However, we managed to instruct our delegate on how we wished her to vote on both motions and gave her the power to vote as she thought fit having listened to our views, should an amendment be proposed. Several people wished that the resolutions chosen were more carefully worded so that they did not admit ambiguity and that the subject properly stated the proposer’s aim: it was felt that this would avoid the missed opportunity of last year’s meeting and the need for confusion over amendments.
The craft group had mounted a display of their recent work for members to see and there were “stations” around the room advertising different activities for people to consider joining. As a result of these it seems that a small group may be meeting regularly to learn to crochet or just crochet together to start in the autumn. Certificates were handed out to one person who had been a WI member for 60 years and another for 50, not necessarily local because, once a member one may transfer all over the country.
We were delighted to see our WI team receive the cup for winning the County WI Quiz. Now the three will do battle against Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire in June so we wish them luck. A heap of twiddle muffs has been amassed, all very individual but all cheerfully colourful. These will be passed to local hospitals and care homes to warm the hearts and hands of dementia sufferers.
