Be it cleaning up our beaches or standing up for the honeybee, the WI has a long and proud history of taking action to protect the environment.
In recent times, more and more WI members have decided to take action on climate change.
Climate change is already affecting the things we love and can be seen through extreme weather events like increased flooding, summer heatwaves or droughts. It is changing our seasons, disturbing the journeys of migrating birds and affecting crops and flowers.

In November 2021 the UK hosted the COP26climate conference. The NFWI attended to urge the government to show leadership and to make sure the conference delivered real progress.
BFWI has TWO very effective Climate Ambassadors who work with federations and members to raise awareness and provide training on climate issues.

The Whole Story- what you did to support the WI’s COP26 plans
As the largest women’s voluntary organisation in England, Wales and the Islands, NFWI were able to lobby decision-makers before COP26 for strong international action on climate change, focusing on the links between gender inequality and the impacts of climate change.
New resources explaining how to get involved were produced for members and made available through MyWI. In addition, all members were encouraged to read the WI – ‘Whole Story’ Action Pack. There is a link to this fantastic resource below.
Bucks members used their local influence to meet with your local Councillors and MPs and asked them to support action on climate change in your area.

The WI urge all members to work with our Climate Ambassadors to organise an event (or events), during Great Big Green Week in September 2022.
This is the largest event for climate and nature in the UK. Thousands of events celebrate how communities are taking action to tackle climate change and protect green spaces. Be part of it!
