100 miles more

Walk 100 miles more!

BFWI invite you to walk 100 miles in and around Buckinghamshire during the course of 2021.  To help you we have located over 25 appealing walks all over the county.  We have chosen walks with an average length of about 5 miles (you don't have to adhere to this distance).  You will find .pdf files of the routes by clicking here:  ROUTES.  You could choose to do the same walk 20 times, do a selection of those most accessible to you, or try to ‘collect the set’ and tour the county over the course of the year.

If you already take part in 'Simply Walks' or any other regular walking group, please feel free to count these outings towards your total.  You may even prefer to come up with your own walking routes and log those – it’s really up to you!

FAQs

Does every member need to print the PDF to record her walks?

Yes please, if competing for an individual certificate.  If members are completing the challenge as a group, one form for the group is fine, and the group will receive a certificate when the majority of its members have each completed 100 miles;  this way the WI or rambling group can be rewarded even though we realise that not all members might reach the target individually.  Since we can't be sure that we will be allowed to walk in groups any time soon, ladies may prefer to use individual forms at least to start with.

This is a slight tightening/ clarification of the rules compared to last year's challenge.

What proof do we need to have of the length of walks we have completed?

This is really an honour system, as we understand that not everyone will use a phone to record their walks.  BFWI know the length of the walks we have curated ourselves at https://www.bucksfwi.org.uk/downloadable-routes.html#routes.  If walkers would record the start / end and mid points of the walks they do that are not on this list, then we can verify approximate mileage from the log forms.

How often should we send in our information?

Please only send in forms once the challenge has been completed, any time before October 31st, 2021.

There will be some members that will complete the challenge more quickly; do you want us to keep recording our walks after we have completed 100 miles?

That is up to you - the challenge is simply for 100 miles and there are no prizes for the greatest distance walked.  But BFWI would be delighted to know how far you managed to walk in total, or how many times over you managed to complete the challenge in the year.

How do we send the info to you?

The forms may be returned to Stuart Lodge, Stuart Road, High Wycombe HP13 6AG.  Please mark them for the attention of Jenny Street, Chair of Leisure and Crafts.  If you prefer, you may scan and email completed forms to us at 2018LandL@gmail.com.  To be considered for a certificate please return forms by October 31st 2021.
Do I have to walk in a group?

No!  If you can organise a socially distanced group with neighbouring WIs that's great but you can also just walk in ones and twos – all we ask is that you log your walks on this sheet and send completed sheets back to us by October 31st, 2020.  You may also like take a photo or selfie at start, midpoint and finish to record your achievements.

Can I get sponsored for the 100 miles more challenge?
If you wanted to you could ask for sponsorship, but BFWI did not design the challenge for this purpose.  Do bear in mind that our Constitution stipulates that any beneficiaries other than your own WI or the federation must be local, women-related and community-related charities.  More info about fundraising for other charities can be found on MyWI.

        What do I win?

There will be certificates awarded to all those Groups or Individuals completing the Challenge.  Those completing the 2020 challenge, and anyone completing 100 miles between January and the end of April 2021, will receive their certificates at our 2021 Annual Council Meeting.

Can I only choose walks from the BFWI lists?

Not at all!   We would love to hear of any updates on our selected walk routes or suggestions you have for additional ones.
